Jaguars re-sign defensive end Jeremy Mincey

Mincey celebrates with the Jaguars

The Jaguars have re-signed defensive end Jeremy Mincey to a four year deal.

Mincey was apparently minutes away from signing a deal with the Chicago Bears before he received a call from Jaguars general manager Gene Smith, who pursuaded Mincey to re-sign with Jacksonville.

Mincey signed a four year contract worth $27.2 million, with an $8 million signing bonus, and $1 million guaranteed in 2012.

After signing the contract Mincey tweeted, “Chicago!!! what a great organization. But, Gene Smith fought for me in a Very Tough fight…. PROUD TO BE A JAG!! DUUUUUVALLLLL!!!”.

Mincey started all 16 games in 2012 and made 57 tackles. He also led the team in sacks with 8.

He is the last of the Jaguars free agent targets from last season to sign as they re-signed Dwight Lowery on Tuesday, and Josh Scobee and Rashean Mathis last week. This is an important move for the Jaguars who now have 10 of their 11 starters from last season returning in 2012.
