
Mathis makes a tackle for the Jaguars
According to ESPN”s Adam Shefter the Jaguars have reached an agreement with corner back Rashean Mathis on a one-year, $5 million deal.
Mathis was on injured reserve for the majority of the 2011 season after tearing his ACL in week 9. Up until his injury Mathis was having a productive seasonĀ for the Jaguars with 34 tackles, 4 passes defended and 1 interception.
Mathis who was set to become a free agent this off-season, if he didn’t re-sign with the Jaguars, had been vocal about his wishes to re-sign with the Jaguars.
“That’s what I want – and there is hope,” Mathis told Jaguars.com. “Hopefully, I don’t hit free agency. The people who work for me know that and my agency knows that – and they have always known that. I’ve never kept that a secret, but I understand the evaluation process that has to go on and the trust process with this injury that has to go on.”
Mathis is native of Jacksonville is in his ninth season with the team since being drafted by the Jaguars out of Bethane-Cookman in the 2nd round of the 2003 draft.
