In the wake of the firing of head coach Jack Del Rio, the Jacksonville Jaguars have also fired wide receivers coach Johnny Cox, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
Cox’s firing occurs on the same day the club waived wide receiver Jason Hill, a veteran they re-signed to a two-year, $3.5 million contract in March and who ranked second on the team with 25 receptions for 367 yards with a team-leading three touchdown receptions.
Cox was in his third season with the Jaguars and his first season as a position coach.
Schefter adds that current quarterbacks coach Mike Sheppard will coach the wide receivers with offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter assuming quarterback coaching duties. Sheppard coached wide receivers with the Cincinnati Bengals (2007-10) and Cleveland Browns (1994-95).
The Jaguars rank 32nd in the NFL in total offense, averaging 250 yards per game, and 32nd in scoring offense, averaging 12.5 point per game. The Jaguars also rank 32nd in passing yards per game and passing yards per play.
