Collier to be Honorary Captain Thursday vs Colts

Paralyzed Jaguar tackle Richard Collier will be the honorary captain for the team when they close their home schedule against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night. He’ll also give a speech to his former teammates before the game.

Collier was shot 14 times on September 2nd and had to have his left leg amputated as a result of his injuries. He’s paralyzed from the waist down, although a New York Times feature on his rehabilitation reported that he was able to flex his left hip during a recent therapy session.

At a hearing last week, the attorney for Tyrone Hartsfield, the accused shooter, was granted access to the addresses of Collier and two other witnesses to the shooting. She was instructed by the court not to share that information with her client.

It is believed that Hartsfield followed Collier in his car and shot him in retaliation for an earlier incident between the men. Hartsfield’s attorney had filed a motion asking for access to the addresses, as well as phone numbers, as part of her preparation for trial. “It is a safety problem. Two of them provided information to the state of Florida,” Assistant State Attorney Bernie de la Rionda said in fighting against the disclosure.
