Jaguars Fill a Need in the 2020 NFL Draft in Round One, Select Florida CB CJ Henderson

The Jaguars filled a huge need with the 9th pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft, selecting Florida cornerback CJ Henderson, who likely will be expected to be a starter day one.

Here’s what ESPN’s Michael DiRocco had to say about the pick and filling a need:

Cornerback is arguably the Jaguars’ top need after they traded away Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye in the past seven months. The Jaguars signed Rashaan Melvin in free agency after failing to land Darqueze Dennard but needed to get better opposite Tre Herndon, who stepped into the starting role when Ramsey was traded last October. Henderson is regarded by some analysts as a better cover man than Jeff Okudah, the third overall pick by the Detroit Lions. The Jaguars have to play Deshaun Watson and Philip Rivers twice, plus here’s a partial list of the other quarterbacks they will face this season: Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Burrow, Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers, Baker Mayfield and Matthew Stafford. The Jaguars had to address this spot.

CBS Sports gave the Jags a “B+” in their post draft recap Thursday night:

  1. Matthew Shishkoff says:

This was a huge pickup for the Jaguars. They are in need for a solid cornerback and from the looks of it, CJ Henderson seems to be the perfect man for the team. This one Scouting Report on Henderson mentioned how he was 1st-Team ALL-SEC (2019), had the 8-th best forced incompletion percentage in 2019 (21.6%), he doesn’t fall for fakes often, and he’s the ideal size/athleticism for his position. He’s going to be an outstanding addition to the team and hopefully he starts wight away. I can’t wait to see him play.
