Three Questions About the Jaguars as Training Camp Gets Closer

When the Jaguars woke up on the final day of September, they were sitting at 3-1 and it looked like they would be a shoe-in for a playoff spot yet again in the AFC.

Three months later, a bitter taste was left in the team’s mouth as they walked off the field in Houston carrying a record of 5-11 with them, going 2-10 after the team’s 3-1 start.

How did it get so bad so quickly? There was plenty of blame to go around, but as 2019 gets ready to start, there’s a new and hopeful look to the team as they hope to be more like the team that took the Pats to the limit in the AFC Title game two seasons ago.

Today we look at three questions about this team as training camp gets going, and what to expect from the 2019 version of the Jaguars.

1. Can Nick Foles Give Stability to the QB Spot?

The team tried to pass along to fans that Blake Bortles was the answer at quarterback the last two seasons, but clearly they were wrong.

In looking to right that wrong, the team gave Nick Foles a ton of money and the starting job upon inking a deal this offseason away from the Philadelphia Eagles, where he won them a Super Bowl two years ago.

Foles is a veteran guy whose basically has been given the keys to the offense to run with. He’s got a lot of pressure, but this is a job he’s been waiting for.

A good camp will go a long way in calming the nerves if anyone thinks the team made a mistake in signing him.

2. Can This Team Get Leonard Fournette Back to Form?

It was a rough 2018 for leading running back Leonard Fournette, as he ran for just 439 yards in eight games total with five scores.

Many have been critical of Fournette for the shape that he’s in or his attitude in regards to being a team player.

He’s got a lot to prove in 2019, and a big chunk of camp will be spent on the team looking to get him his groove back along with an unproven offensive line.

It’s a priority to get him back to form.

3. Will Yannick Ngakoue Show Up?

Yannick Ngakoue wants a new deal, and the Jaguars are still trying to figure out what it is going to take to get the excellent defensive end in camp.

He’s got close to 30 sacks over the last three seasons and is just entering his prime, and if the team can’t find a way to get him in happy, it’s going to be a huge blow for this defense to start the season without him.

The defense all offseason has been talking about being more aggressive and more like the team that was a terror on the field in 2017, but without Ngakoue, that’s going to be next to impossible.
