Best Advice For A Successful Tailgate

If you’re like me, getting tickets to see your favorite football team play in the upcoming season can seem like a dream come true. Whether you are local or coming into town for the event, you probably want to make a day of it and do some tailgating with other fans. Being prepared is key and there are many ways to do it, there are even apps designed to help with tailgating prep. Both veteran and rookie fans alike can benefit from some of the advice we have compiled here. Get ready for the ultimate game-day experience with some of the tips below.

Think Ahead

The best advice I can give you is to start with a list of anything you think you may want or need at your tailgate party. This includes everything from food, to serving utensils, to seating. Once you have yourself sorted, take a minute to check the stadium website for rules and regulations regarding what you can and cannot have/do.

Food Prep

Obviously, it would be of benefit to cook as much as possible before you arrive. You want to spend the majority of your time enjoying this day, not dealing with food prep or serving others. There are some things though that may be tricky to transport, or need to be served warm. Using standing trays with a Sterno can for heat or turning your cooler into a warming oven with aluminum foil, bricks, and wet towels will really improve the quality of your meal.

Keeping it Cool

Heat can be a huge buzz kill when you are trying to get your party on. There are a few ways you can keep cool and kill two birds with one stone (or block of ice). Filling your cooler with frozen water balloons that are the colors of the team you are supporting is a great way to show who you are rooting for in a fun way. Anyone who has spent a day partying in the sun knows how important it is to keep yourself hydrated. Make sure you have plenty of cold water by freezing water bottles in advance. These can be used to help keep your cooler cold and will also thaw throughout the day for maximum cold-water consumption.

Fun Hacks

There are a couple cool tricks I have seen in the past that are too good to not share. Many of you have seen an empty cup be used as a speaker for a cell phone, but have you seen the more advanced version of this trick? Take an empty paper towel tube and attach two empty cups to either end. Cut a hole in the middle of the paper towel tube and place your phone in there, viola! Another great trick is gluing magnets to your cozies for easy attachment to any car when you need a place to rest your drink.

The After Party

Everyone knows that the long drive home can be one of the worst parts about attending sporting events if you don’t live nearby. Avoid this problem by getting yourself a room at Motel 6 so you can bring the party back to your place when the Jaguars win, or at the very least have a comfortable spot close by to go home and crash after a long day of tailgating.
