In a semi-surprising decision Wednesday night, the Jaguars elected not to exercise left tackle Kelvin Beachum’s contract option, Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times Union reports.
The Jaguars can pursue a new deal with Beachum, but if he’s unsigned at 4 p.m. on March 9, he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
If Beachum’s call is to find another team, add left tackle to the Jaguars’ extensive off-season to-do list.
Had the Jaguars exercised Beachum’s option, it would have triggered $18 million in guaranteed money – a $5 million option bonus, $7.5 million in salary this year and $5.5 million in 2018 salary.
Beachum, 27, tore his ACL playing for Pittsburgh in 2015 and signed a prove-it deal with the Jaguars last March.
Beachum started 15 games (1,023 of 1,112 snaps), missing only the Week 3 loss to Baltimore after he sustained a concussion at San Diego.
