Jones-Drew Will Play Sunday vs Vikings; Likely as a Third-Down Back

Jacksonville coach Mike Mularkey said Monday that running back Maurice Jones-Drew will play in Week 1 at Minnesota, but likely as part of a rotation in third-down situations, according to the team’s official website.

Jones-Drew, who will serve as the backup to running back Rashad Jennings for the opener, returned to practice Monday after ending his 38-day holdout without getting a new contract Sunday. He is also expected to spell Jennings against the Vikings as he works back into game shape after missing the entire preseason while locked in a contract dispute. “I fought for it. Plain and simple,” Jones-Drew said Sunday.

“I have no regrets. If I came back, if I was able to be reborn again and this situation happened again, I’d do it the same way.”
