Jaguars Trade Up, Draft WR Justin Blackmon

Justin Blackmon in NYC at the NFL Draft

After trading up two spots in the draft, the Jaguars selected Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon, with the 5th overall pick in the 2012 draft.

“It’s an exciting time, it’s a dream come true, I’m just happy and I’ve achieved one of my dreams” said Blackmon, moments after being drafted.

This puts an end to the need for a game changing wide receiver for the Jaguars, and rounds out their offense nicely. Blackmon will be paired opposite free agent signing Laurent Robinson, as one of Blaine Gabbert’s top targets.

Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin referred to Blackmon as a beast and compared him to Andre Johnson and Hakeem Nicks with his ability to go up and get the ball.

In his senior season Blackmon had 121 receptions for 1522 yards and 18 touchdowns; all numbers that the Jaguars will hope he can replicate at the next level.

The Jaguars swapped first round picks and gave up only a 4th round draft pick – 101 overall – in trading up with Tampa Bay.
