Jaguars to Ink Veteran WR Lee Evans

Lee Evans with the Baltimore Ravens

Last season Lee Evans dropped what could have been the game-winning TD pass for the Ravens in the AFC Title game in New England.

His reward for that will be signing a one-year deal with the Jaguars.

Evans started his career with seven very good years with the Bills, but after catching a career-worst 37 passes in 13 games in 2010, the Bills traded him to Baltimore last August for a fourth-round draft pick.

Now the veteran is looking for a place to play, and he’s found one with the Jags, a team that needs WR help and is happy to take on Evans despite his lackluster one-year with the Ravens.

Evans won’t be counted on as the No. 1 receiver, because the Jags this offseason inked a five-year, $32 million deal with Laurent Robinson.

Instead, the 31-year-old will be looked at as a veteran presence, a guy that can still make some plays, but has seen the best days of his career already.

Last season he battled through an ankle injury, and was inked to provide some insurance for rookie Torrey Smith, who struggled in the preseason.

Once Smith got his woes behind him, Evans saw little playing time, something he will look for with the Jags in 2012.
