The Jaguars have dismissed Senior Vice President of Football Operations and General Counsel Paul Vance, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports.
Mortensen adds that Senior Vice President of Digital Media Sashi Brown has been promoted to replace Vance, who will remain in a consultant’s role through the end of next season, Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times Union reports.
Vance had been with the Jaguars since 1994 and was former owner Wayne Weaver’s right hand man. In addition to serving as general counsel, Vance took charge of the team’s football operations in 2001, including managing the salary cap and contract negotiations.
With new Shad Khan taking ownership of the franchise on January 4, it’s understandable that he’d want to bring in his own people for those critical roles. There were also signs that Vance was not in Khan’s long-term plans. Unlike in 2003, Vance did not appear to be involved in the team’s current search for a head coach.
