LB Mike Lockley To Appeal Fine

Jaguars rookie linebacker Michael Lockley was fined $20,000 for a hit on New England Patriots wide receiver Taylor Price in the preseason opener.

Lockley did not make the Jaguars’ 53-man roster, instead agreeing to a practice squad contract on Sunday.

Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union reports that Lockley is still on the hook for the fine, which he is appealing. If upheld, the $20,000 would be paid off in eight, $2,500 installments.

Lockley has a hearing scheduled with the league office this week, and it’s hard to argue against the fine being excessive compared to what Lockley has made and will make this season. The undrafted free agent from Florida Atlantic did not receive a signing bonus when he joined the Jaguars in late July, and will be earning $5,700 for each week he’s on the eight-man practice squad, $96,900 if he remains for all 17 weeks.
