Douzable Says Winning the South the Focus of the Jags in 2011

Win the AFC South. This isn’t just a dream for Jaguars DT Leger Douzable, it’s what he expects the team to do this season. After speaking with Leger, and TE Zach Miller, this is the common theme that seems to have infected the Jaguars. After being so close last season, the team is poised and ready to take the next step and unseat the Colts in the South.

Leger also hopes to be a bigger factor on the defensive line for the team. Confidence definitely wasn’t lacking when I spoke to Leger this past weekend.

“ I’ve spent the majority of the off season just training, and getting ready for the upcoming season. I have also taken the chance to spend extra time with family.” Leger said when I asked how he had spent this off season.

Leger was happy with the fact that he has gotten to spend the extra time with his family, but he also cant wait for the season to start, “I just want to put the pads back on, and get the guys back together, we’re just like a family, and I cant wait until we get together again.”

When asked how he felt about the teams chances this upcoming season he responded “We have a goal, and that is to win the AFC South, we were so close last season, and we believe we have a team that can compete with anyone, but the main goal remains the same win the division.”

Leger also feels like he is ready to become a very disruptive factor on the defensive line for the Jaguars stating, “I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself to become better, I’ve trained hard, and I am very determined to make an impact. I also have put pressure on myself to be more of a leader, being that me and Terrance Knighton are the senior members of the DT’s on the team.”

Terrance and Leger are the two most experienced defensive tackles on the team both going into their 3rd season. Leger also said that he expects to give Terrance a run for his money for a starting spot during training camp.

I also had the chance to get Leger’s thought on Peyton Manning, who the Jaguars face twice a year. Leger said of Manning “Peyton is the best in the business for sure, but when I’m on the line facing him, I tune him out when he is making all his calls. He likes to play a lot of mind games, get inside your head just to throw you off your game, so you cant listen to that. I just tune him out and focus on the offensive lineman in front of me.”

Leger seems focused and ready for a new season to begin, once the lock out ends. The feel I get from talking to the players is that they feel it is their year to unseat the powerhouse Colts, and take the league by storm. Don’t sleep on this team, they are out to turn heads, and are full of confidence. 2011 should prove to be a great season, not just for Leger, but for the team, and its great fans.

When writing a sports article please refer to the player by their last name. Although you might be BFF’s with Leger, your audience is not. Step your game up Spooner.
