Jaguars Believe Garrard Lacks “Commitment To Excellence And Winning”

The Jaguars believe David Garrard lacks the “eye of the tiger” and a “commitment to excellence and winning,” according to Michael Lombardi of NFL Network . Lombardi suggests Garrard is missing the “innate intangible” that drives elite quarterbacks. “They feel when David Garrard leaves the facility, then football is behind him,” explains Lombardi.

Coach Jack Del Rio, offensive coordinator and Dirk Koetter, and owner Wayne Weaver have hinted as much the past two years, calling Garrard out for his inconsistent play and suggesting he’s not an elite field general. Garrard is the heavy favorite to start Week 1, but he’s now just a bridge to rookie Blaine Gabbert.
