A Player That Should Have Made the Top 10 Jaguars of All-Time – Tony Brackens

Well after taking some heat from readers and going back and looking at the numbers, I am going to give you what you want: an agreement as to why Tony Brackens should have made the list of the top ten Jaguars of all-time. While I am not removing anyone from the list, I figure Tony does belong in the conversation. The only reason I didn’t give him much thought before is because I took the injury problem too much to heart, but I will rectify that with this post.

Tony Brackens Defensive End

Stats– Played 8 seasons with the Jaguars after being drafted 33rd overall in 1996. Brackens played in 107 games and started 75 of those games for the Jaguars. In his 8 seasons, Tony had 301 tackles, which averages out to 37 tackles per season, his career high was 55 in 1999.

Tony was a sack machine for the Jags, as he had 55 for his career which is still tops in Jaguars history. Tony forced 32 career turnovers, 27 forced fumbles and 5 interceptions, and has an interception return for a touchdown. Tony was named to the 1999 Pro Bowl after having a career year, during the ’99 season he had 55 tackles, 8 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions, and a career high 12 sacks.

Brackens is one of the best Jaguar defenders to ever play. While I stand by my list, I do acknowledge Tony Brackens, and the presence he made on the field. The reason John Henderson makes it over him was John’s ability to eat offensive lineman, and his ability to stuff the run. While I understand I may still take heat for not putting Brackens on the actual list, maybe this article with ease the minds of the Jaguars fans who read it.
