Top Ten All-Time Jaguars: #1 Jimmy Smith

We have finally reached the end of our journey to see who is tops in Jaguars history. We’ve seen a kicker, a QB, a couple DB’s, a big DT, a couple running backs, and a wide receiver. The top spot needed to go to someone who truly deserved it, and someone who put up great stats to help the Jaguars to where they sit now.

The best Jaguar in history was originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1992, only appearing in seven games for them in 1992 and was not heard from again until he became a Jaguar. The best Jaguar comes to us from Jackson State, and hails from Detroit, Michigan. Without any further ado here is the number one Jacksonville Jaguar of all-time:

1. Jimmy Smith Wide Receiver

Stats- Played 11 seasons for the Jaguars from 1995 to 2005, which are the most years for one player with the team. Jimmy played in 171 games for the Jags, starting in 150 games. Smith has a career total of 862 catches, for 12,287 yards for a career yard per catch average of 14.3 yards.

Jimmy’s career high in catches came in 1999, when he had 116 catches for 1,636 yards which is also his career high. Jimmy caught 67 touchdown passes in his career, plus a kick return touchdown and a fumble return for a touchdown. Jimmy has 40 career caches in the postseason for 647 yards and 7 touchdowns. Jimmy was a part of a receiving tandem that helped to lead Jacksonville to the AFC Championship game in 1999. Jimmy scored 418 points for his career with the Jaguars, which places him just behind former teammate Fred Taylor. Smith was named to five consecutive Pro Bowls from 1997 to 2001. Upon his retirement Smith held all the major receiving records for the Jaguars.

With his emergence as an elite receiver in 1996 Smith helped to carry the team to its winning ways. Jimmy was exciting to watch play, and was always giving 110% on the field. Even though the Cowboys didn’t see much use for Jimmy, the Jags sure did and he proved that he was one of the best receivers to play the game. Jimmy is sure to be a future Hall of Famer, all he needs is for Canton to finally call his name.

Well we have reached the end of the line with this top ten list, and I hope you had as much fun reading it as I had writing it and presenting it to you. As time passes on players will move up this list and others will make their jump onto it, one thing is sure though is that we will all have fun watching the Jaguars for years to come.
