Top Ten All-Time Jaguars: #8 John Henderson

It seems unfair that the number 8 entry in this top ten list isn’t any higher, but with the amount of talent on this list 8th will have to do. This man, well giant, comes to us from Tennessee and is as tough as they come.

While being a force on the field most will probably remember him more for his pregame ritual of being slapped in the face by the trainer. If you haven’t guessed who it is yet, I won’t keep you in suspense any longer.

8. John Henderson DT

Stats: Played in 124 games in Jacksonville starting in 120 of those games. Johns has 29 sacks for his career which is 3rd in team history, though his rookie season produced the career high in sacks with 6.5.

During his rookie season John had 3 sacks in a single game against Philadelphia which amounted for about half of those 6.5 sacks. John has 563 career tackles for the Jags which is 5th on the teams’ all-time list. Henderson spent 7 years in Jacksonville making his career tackle average per season a very good 80 per season. Along with Marcus Stroud, John helped to form one of the most imposing defensive lines in the NFL, the two were so big it made it hard for any team to run the ball against the team.

Henderson has 8 forced fumbles in his career and 38 passes defended. John was named to the Pro Bowl twice in 2004 and 2006 and was a 2006 second team All NFL selection by the associated press. Henderson will always be remembered by his dominate play along with his pre-game smack. John is the first defensive player on this list but he won’t be the last as the Jaguars have had some very good defenders in these 16 years. As is the case for the next player in the top ten he is a very good hitter and he will hang you out to dry on the clothesline.
