Top Ten All-Time Jaguars: #9 Mike Hollis

Yesterday I gave the number ten all-time great Jaguars in team history. Keenan McCardell stood tall at number 10. Tonight’s pick doesn’t stand so tall as far as stature goes. What this man lacks in height he makes up for in the amount of points he scored as he is the all-time leading scorer in Jaguars history. From the University of Idaho here is the 9th greatest Jaguar:

9. Mike Hollis Kicker

Stats: Played in 108 career games for the Jaguars and was the starter for all those games. Hollis scored 764 points in his career in Jacksonville which is still tops on the all-time list for Jacksonville.

Hollis was a perfect 5 for 5 on field goal attempts from 0-19 yards. His most impressive stat is that he hit 71 percent of his field goals from 50+ yards, that’s some serious leg. Hollis’ career high in points came in 1997 when he scored 134 points and was named to the Pro Bowl. In his seven years in Jacksonville Hollis averaged 109 points per season and his career field goal percentage with the Jaguars was 80% which stands as the 31st best percent of all time, Hollis’ 98% of pats made also stands at 31 on the all-time list.

Hollis’ 134 points in 1997 was the best among all NFL kickers. So without a doubt Mike Hollis belongs on this list, as kickers are important to their teams, ask Tom Brady who won 3 Super Bowls because of the foot of Adam Vinatieri. I’m not someone who is going to leave Hollis off this list because he’s a kicker because given the stats he really helped the Jaguars while they were just getting started. So just remember if the shoe fits wear it and kick some field goals! Tomorrows pick will be no smack in the face.
