Jags Among Those Mentioned to be in the Mix to Move to Los Angeles

Rumors are swirling once again about which NFL team could be heading to Los Angeles. According to sources 5 teams where approached by AEG, the management group trying to build a 72,000 seat system in downtown LA and bring a team along with it. The five that where reportedly contacted where the San Diego Chargers, St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Rams and Raiders have already had a stint in Los Angeles, both teams having left in 1996 within just a few months of one another. San Diego would be the closest of these teams to be linked to the rumor, but Chargers ownership has very little interest in giving up the majority ownership of a very promising team. The Vikings are considered the most likely for a possible move with the uncertainty of the Metrodome being finished in time and if the city is serious about giving the team a new stadium.

Also one would be inclined to think that Zygi Wilf and his brothers wouldn’t be inclined to sell the team. The hope with Minnesota is that they do get the funding for a new stadium and with squash the rumor of them moving. That leaves the Jaguars. The Jaguars have been in the NFL since 1993 and been playing since 1995. EverBank Field is still relatively new and has already hosted a Super Bowl. The fan base is solid and the teams is on the cusp of being a force in the NFL.

With all things in consideration any of these teams leaving while good for the city of Los Angeles is a hurt for the city losing a franchise. While it could be said the fans would probably just follow over, it could also be said that some fans will just be turned off by the decision to move the team. All these cities have very good fan bases and are very rooted in their respective communities.

Losing any of these cities could be very detrimental as fans could just walk away from the game. A decision is probably far off as AEG still needs to secure the land for the new stadium as well as a team. Don’t look for any hasty decisions to be made just yet, but don’t be surprised if its your favorite team that just left town.
