Draft Week

Finally, draft week is upon us. With the absence of free agency, it’s been a long, long off-season. We haven’t had a whole lot to talk about outside of draft picks, and that’s not all bad. Let’s use this opportunity to think about what players the Jaguars are likely to pick in the first round.

Last night, I took part in a writer’s mock draft over at BCC. If I learned anything from it, there won’t be a solid starting quarterback when the Jaguars pick in the second round. That being the case, let’s take a look at who the Jaguars may have their eyes on.

Jake Locker is the guy I have my eyes on, and I have to think that the Jaguars do too. He has a great arm, and he’s very mobile. Physically, he actually reminds me a lot of David Garrard. He would fit right into the Jaguars’ system because of these similarities, and he has all the tools to be the next great QB in the NFL.

Ryan Kerrigan is another guy I have my eyes on. He’s considered a solid “safe” pick. I don’t like the term “safe” when describing potential draft picks, but he does have the ability to get at the opposing quarterback, and he would make a big impact for years to come.

Cameron Jordan is the guy that we gave to the Jaguars in the BCC mock draft. This is a guy that has a big motor, and he’ll find ways to get pressure on the quarterback. More importantly, he’s a very tough guy to run at, and he would definitely help a poor defense.

Other notable guys are Christian Ponder and Colin Kaepernick. The more I think about it, the more I think the Jaguars are going quarterback with the 16th pick. Both of these guys could be solid starters going forward, and I think that either one of them would fit into the Jaguars’ offense very well.
