Monday Thoughts – Quarterbacks

Let’s get right to it today. The weekend was fairly uneventful, but that shouldn’t stop you from sharing your thoughts on the recent happenings of the NFL, and I know it won’t stop me. Today, I’m just going to throw out a few morsels for thought, and I’ll try to convey a little intelligence at the same time.

It would seem as thought the draft analysts are revving up there “this-quarterback-is-the-futre” machine. I really don’t understand why some guys do this. I remember one distinguished analyst last year waving the “take Jimmy” flag into the second round. This year, it’s conceivable that the Panthers could replace him after less than a year of starting. Now, that’s a rough place to be a quarterback.

Speaking of quarterbacks, where on earth did Blaine Gabbert go? This is a guy that many thought could be taken first overall before the combine. He’ll still be taken in the top 10, but he’s getting far less coverage than Cam Newton. Newton has the talent, but does he have the drive?

Cam Newton intrigues me. He has every tool an NFL starter could ever want, but I have no idea how he’ll take a loss, and he will be losing games if he goes to Carolina.

Finally, we move to Ryan Mallett. This is a guy that I thought could be wearing teal later this year, but now I think that’s a little far-fetched. If Mallett can prove that he is a good person with a strong work ethic, he should be a solid first round starter.

The draft is only 10 days away. Then, we’ll all find out where the cream of the crop is headed off to.

I wonder…wonder….wonder…Is that all you sport writers have to say about Cam Newton…he’s talent BUT I wonder….sound so typically distrusting. What else is NEW..

    • Character counts, and he has some past issues that are, to say the least, suspicious. Throwing a laptop out of the window is one of the last things I would do if I knew the police wanted to talk to me, and I have to wonder if he knew about the alleged money talks between his father and Mississippi State. You can’t overlook those situations. As for taking a loss, look at how Ryan Leaf responded after being drafted by the Chargers. Take it for what it’s worth.
