Jaguars News – 4/12

5:11 PM – Just to follow up on the Da’Quan Bowers bit from earlier, it appears that all is not well. Steve Wyche of NFL.com is reporting that Bowers’ medical recheck showed signs of “potential long-term arthritis and some weakness.” This report is in contrast to earlier reports that everything checked out fine for Bowers.

5:00 PM – The NFL pre-season schedule is out. Here’s the Jaguars schedule:

  • @NE Patriots – Date and Time TBD
  • Vs. Atl. Falcons – August 19, 8:00 PM, Fox
  • @ Buf. Bills – Date and Time TBD
  • Vs. STL. Rams – Date and Time TBD

3:25 PM – Today, Wayne Weaver conducted an online chat on Jaguars.com. In it he said, “We start every season with the goal to win our division and have the opportunity to get into the postseason. We are realistically one or two drafts and one or two free agency periods away from being able to compete at the very highest level. That’s when we can realistically getting into the postseason and having the opportunity to bringing a Super Bowl championship to Jacksonville.” Mr. Weaver seems to be taking a very realist perspective with the future of the Jaguars, especially when we’re talking about the 2011 season. I agree with what he said, and I think it’s a solid analysis of the current state of the Jaguars as a team.

1:05 PM – Tania Ganguli of The Florida Times-Union said via Twitter that Jaguars’ owner, Wayne Weaver is “softening earlier comments that w/o playoffs #Jaguars will likely have a new coach.” It sounds to me as though Weaver realizes that the Jaguars face a tough schedule for any team, and the Colts will be very difficult to overthrow for the AFC South title.

12:17 PM – Here’s another note-worthy tidbit. Mike Klis of the Denver Post says that the Broncos would prefer to trade down in the draft from the second pick. The only real relevance this has is if the Jaguars really liked a top prospect. I don’t see them trading up, especially to the 2nd pick, but it’s something to keep an eye on.

11:05 AM – Gregg Rosenthal of Pro Football talk is reporting that Da’Quan Bowers did well at his medical retest. This is important for Jaguars fans as Bowers may actually slide to the 16th pick of the draft. More or less, it’s something to keep an eye on.
