Jaguars Will Set Sights on Colts, AFC South Title in 2011

The Jaguars went into week 15 with a chance to overthrow the Colts as the reigning division champions, but they left Indy with a sick, empty feeling. The 2010 Jaguars failed to win another game in 2010 to finish the season 8-8. Next year, it’s all about the division title.

The Jaguars, as well as the rest of the division, face a difficult schedule in 2011. The AFC South is set to play all the teams from the AFC North and the NFL South. Combined, that represents 4 playoff teams. On top of that, the Jaguars have to play the Colts twice, the Jets, and the Chargers. Difficult road? Absolutely.

The Jaguars’ road to the playoffs will once again take a trip through Indianapolis. I firmly believe that the Jaguars will have to sweep the Colts to stake a claim on the AFC South title. While it is possible for them to get in via a wildcard birth, that road would appear to be shut with such a difficult schedule.

At this point, I have to acknowledge that we won’t know how tough the Jaguars’ schedule is until next year is over, but it’s likely that it will be one of the most difficult ones in the league. Luckily, the Colts face a similarly difficult schedule. The result should be a heckuva season once again for Jaguars fans.

The Jaguars will have to make the big plays that they failed to convert on in their December loss to the Colts to beat them. The Jaguars need to win the turnover battle, run the ball down the Colts’ throat, and get their defense off the field on third downs. If the Jaguars can do those things twice next year, they’ll be hosting a playoff game for the first time in over a decade.
