Jaguar and Plano Local Terrence Wheatley To Host His 1st Annual Plano Youth’s Sports Festival

On Friday March 4, Terrence Wheatley, cornerback for the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars and Plano local will kick off his 1stannual Charity Plano Youth Sports Festival.  All proceeds of the events will go to the Autism Society of America (http://www.autism-society.org/).

The festival will begin with a “Celebrity Sports Night” at Buffalo Wild Wings (625 North Central Expy #100, Plano, TX 75023) on Friday, March 4 at 8:00 pm.  The event is open to all ages and tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.  Attendees will be able to mingle with Wheatley and other NFL athletes while helping to raise money for Autism research.  Expected athletes to attend include Patrick Williams (Seattle Seahawks), Justin Blalock (Atlanta Falcons), and Mason Crosby (Green Bay Packers).

The “Free Youth Football and Cheer Camp” begins at 9:00 am on Saturday, March 5 at Plano East High School (3000 Los Rios Rd., Plano, TX 75074) and is open to grades 1st-6th.  The football camp is non-contact and includes first-rate football instruction from football coaches and NFL players.  The cheer clinic concentrates on basic cheer skills including jumps, motions, and moves (no experience necessary).

The “Free Varsity Skills Football and Cheer Camp” will begin at 11:30 am, also on Saturday, March 5 at Plano East High School.  It is open to grades 7th-12th.  The football camp is non-contact and for athletes that would like to play varsity or college football in the future.  Terrence and the other NFL players will teach offensive and defensive techniques that they are taught in the pros. Registration for both camps is on a first come basis and can be made in advance online.

When asked about donating all proceeds to charity, Wheatley said, “I have several family members that have to cope with Autism and the affects of it.  It is something that needs to be diagnosed at an early age.  Planning needs to be made for proper education for the kids, there is a need for special classes, tutors, etc.”

“This will be my first camp, something that I’ve been wanting to do for a while.  It is a way to give back to the community and I’m very fortunate to be in the position that I’m in and capable to do so.  A lot of people look up to athletes and this is a chance for me to be face to face with the kids and help them out with any questions they have.  Also to talk to them about the importance of staying active.”
