Team Teal Has a Fan Event to Drum Up Support for Jags

Friday night in Jacksonville the Jags hosted an event for “Team Teal,” a group of fans that banded together to try and get more support in the city for the club.

“The city responded, the city came alive and it was awesome to see,” Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said. “Then, we got a name put on our stadium. EverBank Field. We come out, two great things to start our year last year.”

Their next goal is growing their season ticket base by several thousand more fans. The Jaguars began this week with 17,000 season-ticket holders already in place after zero this time last year. They hope to have close to a 90 percent renewal rate this season.

And while national perception has improved, the speakers acknowledged that it still has a ways to go. Part of that had to do with the visibly jarring empty club seats near the 50-yard line in the stadium. Premium seats do not count against teams for blackout purposes, but at EverBank Field those seats are prominent during television broadcasts. Weaver has called the empty club seats an “eyesore.”
