Week 10: Texans @ Jaguars Preview

This week, the Houston Texans make their way to Jacksonville to take on the 4-4 Jaguars. This matchup is a very important one for both teams as they are both tied for last place in the uber-competitive AFC South.  The Texans had a fast start to their season, winning their first 2 games. They have levelled off since, but are still playing hard-nosed football from start to finish. If the Jaguars want to make some noise in the push for the playoff race, they have to show up this weekend against the Texans’ explosive offense.

Not only is the Texans offense air attack one of the most lethal in the leagues, their running game has also been amazing this year. Lead by Arian Foster (league leader with 864 rushing yards); the Texans have shown they are no longer a one-dimensional on offense. This forces opposing defenses to remain honest and not focus solely on a particular aspect of the team’s offense. The Jaguars defense, which has not been spectacular this season, will have to play disciplined on defense to avoid being embarrassed by the Texans. The Jags have already been victimized by the offenses of the Chargers, Eagles, Titans, and Chiefs and if they do not find ways to contain the league’s top offenses, they will not be successful down the stretch. It has to start this weekend against the Texans.

Why the Jaguars will win:

1.       They will hit on all cylinders. The Texans are the worst team in pass-defense this season. Moreover, they are dead last in total yards allowed at 399.5 yards. David Garrard and his offense will shred apart the Texans secondary and will have himself another field day. Moreover, look for the Jaguars offense to catch the Texans defense off-guard and allow MJD to benefit as well.

2.       The defense WILL make a statement. So far, they have allowed 28 points a game, and one has to think Houston will walk in there and do what they do best. However, during the much needed Bye-week, the Jaguars defense has done their homework and will do what it takes to play better defense.

Why the Texans will win:

1.       They have an explosive offense. It will all start with Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson going up against the 28th ranked Jaguars pass defense. Arian Foster will show what he’s made of and shred the Jaguars’ running defense apart as he tries to eclipse 1,000 yards for the season.

My Prediction: Jaguars win 28-27. The defenses for both teams do not hold on to their end of the stick but the Jaguars offense does just enough to squeeze out a win against the Houston Texans.
