Del Rio’s job safe – for now

It goes without saying that Jack Del Rio’s tenure as Jaguars coach was extended a bit Sunday as the team upset the usual AFC South power Colts 31-28 on Josh Scobee’s 59-yard field goal at the buzzer.

Del Rio has been the talk of being on the hot seat in 2010, and why not? The team has been rather poor the past two seasons, and they went out and made some moves this past offseason that were supposed to put them at least in the position to be competitive in 2010.

They won their opener against the Broncos at home, then looked awful in back to back losses to the Chargers and Eagles in which they were outscored 56-16.

So instead of packing it in, the team came out Sunday at home against Peyton Manning and the Colts and played their best game of the season, and a lot of credit today goes to Del Rio and the coaching staff for an offensive game plan that worked against Jim Caldwell’s team.

With games coming up against the Bills, Titans, Chiefs and Cowboys coming up next, the Jags could find themselves in the thick of the playoff race, and that could all be due to the gameplan Del Rio and his coaches put worth Sunday which saved their season.
