Jags Dump WR Hughes After Two Drops

The Jags were quick to dump WR Nate Hughes after a couple of drops on Sunday vs the Cards:

The beleaguered Jaguars were left depleted at wide receiver Monday after Troy Williamson was lost for the season with a torn labrum and Nate Hughes was waived. Hughes was the victim of his two drops in the end zone in the fourth quarter of the 31-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, but the move was still somewhat surprising because of Williamson’s injury.

When coach Jack Del Rio was asked if cutting Hughes sends a message to the team that players who don’t perform will lose their jobs, he said, “It’s a tough business.” He added, “I think everything that we do as an organization is what we feel is in the best interests of the team and we carry on.” General manager Gene Smith had the authority to make the move, but Del Rio said he also discussed it with him. This is the second week in a row the Jaguars have cut a player after a poor performance. The victim last week was defensive end James Wyche.
