Jags Closing In on Signing Eugene Monroe

Pro Football Talk.com reports that the Jags appear to be getting close to inking first-round pick Eugene Monroe:

With the ceiling and the floor now established for the eighth overall draft slot, Jags tackle Eugene Monroe could soon be joining the fold in Jacksonville.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN T-Minus-Three-Days, Monroe and the Jaguars are close to doing a deal. (Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com echoes the sentiment.)

We’d heard that the Packers were waiting on the Jags to sign Monroe at No. 8 before signing defensive lineman B.J. Raji at No. 9, presumably because Green Bay sensed that relatively inexperienced agent Sanat Shah would emerge with a not-so-great deal.

But Shah wisely waited for Raji to agree to terms (it happened last night just before the Vick thing blew up), making it easier to gauge Monroe’s value.

Once Monroe signs, there will be three remaining holdouts: Bengals tackle Andre Smith (No. 6), 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree (No. 10), and Bills defensive end Aaron Maybin (No. 11).

Our guess is that Maybin will come next, and that Smith and Crabtree will move in together and become the subjects of a reality show, with Crabtree attempting to rehab his foot while Smith tries to eat it.
