Jaguars Have No Intentions of Bringing Vick On

Looks like Mike Vick won’t be coming to the Jags. The Florida Times-Union reports that the Jaguars do not want a piece of Vick:

Several television and print reports point out Jacksonville as a possible landing spot for former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, who recently received conditional reinstatement from the NFL.

So let’s go ahead and slay this dragon right now for the message board folks and the dreamers – IT. AIN’T. HAPPENING.

In fact, Vick’s name hasn’t come up once during any of the club’s personnel meetings, according to people inside the organization. Texting back and forth with Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio yesterday, I asked if the club would be interested in Vick. Del Rio replied, “No.”

So there you have it. No Vick in The Jack this year. But a player with Vick’s skill set shouldn’t have a problem finding a job. What I’m having a problem with these days, though, is the notion that Vick, all of the sudden, is a “Wildcat quarterback.” Was Vick a “Wildcat quarterback” in 2004, when Atlanta paid him a then-record $130 million contract extension? Why is he pigeonholed as that now?

But I digress.

In other matters, it appears the Jaguars rank 25th in’s latest NFL Power Rankings, which means Jacksonville is worse than the Bengals, Jets, 49ers, and Bills. Interesting. Personally, I think the Jags should be a little higher (not much). But that’s just me.
