Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News.com has his take today on what teams around the league have the best shot of going from worst to first this year, and the Jags rank at two on his list:

2. Jacksonville Jaguars. The backbone of this team before last season were the offensive and defensive lines, instrumental to Jack Del Rio’s hardnosed game plan, which starts with running the ball and stopping the run. They couldn’t quite get going on the ground with key injuries at guard and center, something that’s no longer a factor in front of Maurice Jones-Drew. On the other side, they didn’t have a dominant presence at defensive tackle and the edge pass rush didn’t deliver, either.

The Jags need to reestablish themselves as an aggressive, physical and intense team. That would give them a similar makeup to the team they’re trying to dethrone, Tennessee. There’s also a window open with Colts going through a coaching change and the Texans remaining an inconsistent mystery.

Del Rio is among the coaches on the early hot seat, but if his players play their hardest for him, the results will be favorable. Just by getting healthy and being more respectable on their home field than last year’s 2-6 should put them in the hunt for a wild card.
