Jaguars Release RB Fred Taylor
Posted by Matt Loede on February 16th, 2009 in News, Roster Moves

The Jaguars makeover of their roster continued on Monday, as the team released running back Fred Taylor. He was set to make about $6 million next season, and there have been plenty of talk about dumping the 11-year veteran.
Taylor was probably going to be the 2nd option for the Jags in 2009 behind Maurice Jones-Drew.
The Jaguars might try to re-sign the 33-year-old back. But Taylor has made it clear he still believes he can be a starter in the NFL. Taylor is 16th on the NFL’s all-time rushing list with 11,271 yards, 81 behind John Riggins. He had 556 yards on the ground last season, splitting time with Jones-Drew, and averaged a career-low 3.9 yards a carry behind an injury-riddled offensive line.

Hard to imagine the Jaguars without Taylor but I think it was time. He just wasn’t getting the stats we need.

I think the release of fred is unjust. After one year removed from one of his best seasons the jaguars let fred go all be he struggeld in 08 it was not just his fault. With garrad being hurried or knocked down 2nd most in the nfl and a decimated offensive line you can’t put the blame on taylor. They talk about wanting to clear cap room then how about porters 8 million for 6 catches. Any one could tell fred brought more than just stats to the jags with the way he and maruice played together he brought emotion, passion, and loyalty to a team that lacked all 3 in 08. the general managing has been horrible in the past 4 to 5 years with 3 1st round wide recivers who have not paned out. It hurts as a fan 2 see fred go after he said he wanted die a jaguar and was willing 2 take a pay cut 2 do so. It was rumored jack lost the team last year and now he has lost the fans as well. Love ya fred you truly will be missed!
