One of the big issues of the Jaguars offseason is signing RB Maurice Jones-Drew to a new contract, but that won’t be easy because he wants to be one of the highest paid running backs in the league. His contract would normally expire after the 2009 season, but since 2010 will be an uncapped year, he won’t be a free agent until 2112. But he’s likely to be unhappy if he doesn’t get a new deal.
Coach Jack Del Rio said, “Again as with all players, we’re going to do what we can as an organization to identify the players that we want to be here, (and) do the best we can go to get them under contract. I think Maurice is a great football player and an even better teammate. So I would like to see us get him done. There is a process that takes place where two sides try and get something done, and we’ll work at that privately to get that done and hopefully that’ll be resolved shortly.”
