A strong finish also wouldn’t hurt Maurice Drew in contract talks. He is entering the final year of his contract next season, although he’s in a complicated situation. If the owners and players don’t agree to a new collective bargaining agreement, 2010 will become an uncapped year and the qualifying period for free agency would jump from four to six years, so he wouldn’t become a free agent until after the 2011 season. The Jaguars, though, could still extend his contract at any time. “It’s out of my hands,” he said. “All I can do is go out and play. Hopefully, they want to do the right thing [extending his contract]. [Regardless] I definitely want to be here.”
