Talking Points: Jaguars vs. Bears

The Jaguars pack the cold weather gear as they travel to Chicago to play the Bears Sunday. Here are the topics that we’ll preview before the game, follow during the game, and analyze after the game.

Focus-The Jaguars were not a very focused team Monday night against the Texans. That resulted in a lackluster performance, even by this season’s standards. At what point do guys get sick of being embarrassed? I’m not a believer that lack of motivation is the chief problem this year, but a few more performances like the Jaguars turned in on Monday night could leave a very bad taste in the mouth this off-season.

Drayton Florence
-Rashean Mathis was placed on the Injured Reserve this week. His season is done. So the final four weeks will be an audition of sorts for Drayton Florence, who has been disappointing this season. Florence may not be tested too much this week. The Bears aren’t a downfield passing team. But the Packers and Colts, the teams the Jaguars play the next two weeks, certainly are.

Taylor Chases the Juice-Fred Taylor needs just 19 yards to pass O.J. Simpson on the NFL’s all-time rushing list. This could be a bad weekend for Simpson depending on what happens with his sentencing. Taylor looked like he was poised for a big game against the Texans, but he only got nine carries. Taylor has traditionally been a good late-season runner.

Matt Jones
-The Jaguars wide receiver met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday. He’ll play Sunday, but there is a chance that this week might be Jones’ last this year. I was on NFL Network this week and they asked me who the Jaguars MVP was. I said that it had to be Jones. Quite a long trip considering there was a chance that he wouldn’t make the team in training camp.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow-The Jaguars played well in the snow last year in Pittsburgh. Maybe a few flakes will spice things up a bit this week…we need something to!
