He Heard Me

He heard me. “Run the lead coach!” I yelled. The fans fifteen rows down turned and frowned. The good hearted fans around us smiled under their blankets. Temps were in the thirties and a light rain was falling. Cold yes, but we were there. Forty-five yard line three dozen rows up behind the Jags bench. ‘Turnovers,’ I yelled. ‘Defense’, I yelled. Run the ball Jack! I guess he heard me.

Top of the fourth quarter and the Jags just got the ball back we were up 24 to 10 a short Jones Drew run was followed by a Matt Jones first down. We were almost out of our end. Two of the next three plays were pass attempts and we punt. ‘Run the lead coach” I screamed.

I had heard it from Jones Drew. It is our short yardage formation with Greg Jones as the lead blocker and Mojo in the backfield. It’s what we do. They know its coming and still can’t stop the power of our backfield. Our defense held. We get the ball at our own 32 yard line. Three straight pass attempts led to a Podlesh punt.

After a good Bronco return, Cutler hit his tight end for a TD. 24 – 17 with 10 minutes left. We feel the momentum shifting. We need a Jaguar drive. Slow. Methodical, Time consuming. After two seven yard Mo jo runs and a first down, A busted play on first and two incomplete passes we punt. I scream again with my foam jaguar head, the only one in the stadium, ‘Run the ball Jack” Again I scream but this time I wait until the crowd quiets down after good defense forces a Denver punt. This time, He Heard Me.

Eight of the next nine plays are runs. Five of them are Jones Drew’s “lead”. Good job team. Good Job O- line. Good job Mojo, G. Jones, Jack and good job to all of those few dozen Jag fans that made the trip. Way to get a hard fought road win.

Is there a prayer come together of players from both sides after Jaguars games? My wife had season tickets for a couple years and says they never did. I believe is is done after almost every NFL game, albeit sometimes quickly.
