5 Questions for BillsGab Writer Kevin Lissow from JaguarsGab Writer Alan Wilson

1. What is the general consensus of Bills fans about games being played in Toronto?

I think it’s a mix. I personally think the Bills truly have intentions of regionalizing the franchise in an attempt to survive as a small market team. Part of the reason I believe this is it’s how they survived in the past, by bringing in markets such as Rochester where I reside. Having said that the fact is when Ralph Wilson passes it looks like right now the team goes to the highest bidder, and I can’t help but think Toronto has more money to compete in a bid situation. I really hope they stay in Buffalo, as I love the city of Buffalo and the loss of the Bills would be devastating. Having said that, I’d prefer Toronto over the other rumored place, Los Angeles.

2. Paul Posluszny is back to man the middle linebacker position after an early-season injury sidelined him in 2007. What are Posluszny’s best qualities as a player, and is he fit to lead this defense?

I think he’s growing into the role as leader of the defense. It’s funny, the way this team is emerging reminds me of the playoff years. They started with a young QB, RB, and WR (Kelly, Thurman, and Reed) and they also got a stud at Middle Linebacker in Shane Conlan. It’s no coincidence they are compared to each other, as Posluszny is the hard nosed, lunch bucket type player that the fans of Buffalo love. I think his best qualities are his hard work and mind for the game. He just hustles at all times.

3. DT Marcus Stroud makes his return to Jacksonville this weekend after being traded to Buffalo in the offseason. Stroud had a great Week 1 game vs. Seattle. Is it fair to say that he will be licking his chops to play against a suddenly-depleted Jaguars offensive line?

Absolutely. Right now he’s saying he gets fired up for every game and seems to think we can be fooled into thinking this is just another game. We know better. The whole Bills line should be licking their jobs, as the Jaguars O-Line is decimated by injuries.

4. Bills fans never do seem to warm up to some California boys who play quarterback (see Rob Johnson and J.P. Losman). Are Bills fans confident that Trent Edwards (also from California) can break that mold and finally give Buffalo a long-term solution at the quarterback position?

I personally questioned whether we knew what the Bills had in Trent Edwards, and I stand by that to a degree, but I really like him. He just seems to have that “it” that separates good QB’s from the pretenders. He has great pocket awareness, confidence, and his teammates seem to be really impressed by his cool demeanor. His arm does not match Losman’s, but it’s plenty good. It’s funny, he’s not looked at so much as a California guy like the others you mentioned, even when he struggled in the cold weather last year. I think Bills fans want to believe so badly that they finally have an answer at QB that they’re cutting him some slack!

5. The last time Jaguars fans saw QB Jim Kelly, he was knocked out of the 1997 playoff game in which the Jaguars upset the Bills at Rich Stadium 30-27. What has Jim Kelly been up to, and is he still an integral part of the Buffalo community?

Unless something has changed that I am not aware of Kelly still resides in Buffalo. He dedicates a lot of time to “Hunter’s Hope”, the charity named after his son who passed away from Krabbe Leukodystrophy. That was such a sad story and the whole city of Buffalo mourned with him. I’ve always found the Kelly story to be incredible. Many don’t realize he did everything he could to avoid Buffalo initially. As I remember it he despised the idea of playing here. But once here he fell in love with the city and the people, and vice versa, and now I don’t think he’ll ever leave. People can pick on Buffalo, but the people have tremendous pride and there is something infectious about that.
