OT Collier Shot; Has Life-Threatening Injuries

Collier
A tragic story this morning out of Jacksonville has left a member of the Jaguars fighting for his life. Reports say that Jags offensive tackle Richard Collier was shot early Tuesday morning while waiting for a woman outside an apartment. Authorities say that Collier has sustained life-threatening injuries in the shooting.

Sources say that a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spokesman says that Collier was shot several times while he and former Jags player Kenneth Pettway were waiting in a car. The gunman shot into the vehicle, and while Collier was shot several times, it’s unknown where exactly he was hit.

There is currently no motive in the shooting, but the Sheriff’s office is investigating. Collier was set to be a backup at tackle for the Jags, as he competed for a starting job this summer in camp but lost out to starter Khalif Barnes.

Collier, who is 6-7, 350 pounds, was arrested November 3rd of last year after police found him asleep behind the wheel of his SUV at a McDonald’s drive-thru window. He failed field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol level of .096. Pettway was a backup DE for the Jags last season and was included in the teams final cuts on Saturday.
