Wounded Jags Update

Coach Jack Del Rio commented Monday on two injured players considered key cogs in the Jacksonville offense: RB Maurice Jones-Drew and WR Jerry Porter.

Jones-Drew sustained an ankle injury in Saturday night’s preseason game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and did not return. Del Rio called the injury “mildly sprained,” which means that he likely will be held out of the preseason finale this Thursday versus the Washington Redskins but should be ready to go in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans.

The availability of Porter for Week 1 is not looking good. Still recovering from hamstring surgery in July, the high-priced free agent acquisition has not played in one preseason game. Del Rio stated that Porter needs at least two weeks of practice before he can play in a game. Porter did not practice on Monday, and the Jaguars only have one more preseason practice before the Thursday night game with the Redskins. If the hamstring injury looks to be healed and Porter returns to practice next week, look for him to make his Jaguars debut in Week 2 versus the Buffalo Bills.
