Jags Fullback Greg Jones Back to Form

If you made a list of Jack Del Rio’s favorite players, Greg Jones would be near the top of the list. The Jaguars fullback is tough, fearless, unselfish and just does his job. He’s a good soldier and a very good fullback.

He’s also dealt with a pair of knee surgeries, one in college at Florida State, the other two years ago after blowing out his ACL in the preseason.

This preseason, Jones looks better than ever. Last year, he played through the recovery process for his ACL and didn’t have the kind of quickness and lateral movement that he showcased in the 2006 preseason.

“There’s always room for improvement,” Jones said. “I feel like I can [run the ball more]. Physically, I feel like I’m ready. Between last year and this year, it’s night and day.”

Jones’ number one goal is to win the Super Bowl. He says that some of his former teammates at Florida State who have played in, and in some cases won, Super Bowls give him a hard time about never playing in one.

He wouldn’t call it a goal, but he does thinks the Jaguars can lead the league in rushing this year.

“I know we can. Everybody knows we can,” Jones said. “[Running backs] coach [Kennedy] Pola talks about that from time to time. When you play the game of football, you want to be the best at what you do.”

Jones also admitted that this years camp was not as rigorous as past years.

“Compared to my first camp, this camp might be a bit more laid back to me,” Jones said. “It seems like Coach Del Rio is taking it easier on us this year. Hopefully that will be good for us in the long run.”

Notes: Former Miami Hurricanes head coach Larry Coker has been at Jaguars camp the last couple of days…Former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin addressed the team earlier this week…Brian Williams is back to practice, working at strong safety. Gerald Sensabaugh started the preseason opener at strong safety, and he’ll come in to play safety in nickel situations, with Williams moving to nickel corner…Cleo Lemon says he’s comfortable and happy in his role as the Jaguars backup, but admits that the preseason games are probably as important for him as for anyone on the team, especially since he’s learning a new offensive scheme.
