Jags Jones Expected to be Released

Pro Football Weekly is reporting that it’s basically a done deal that the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to say “so long” to former first-round pick wide out Matt Jones.  The paper says that one inside source says that the team will probably keep Jones around for training camp, but that he would need to have a monster camp in order to stick around and make the team.  Last season Jones had just 24 catches in 12 games for 317 yards with four touchdowns.

In his short career, he has played in 42 games, making just 101 catches for 1392 yards and 13 touchdowns.  Another reason why Jones will likley be gone is that the team has already been revamping its wide out core this past offseason.  The team has made moves to get Jerry Porter from the Raiders via free agency, and then also made a trade to get Troy Williamson from Minnesota.  All this seems to point to Jones being let go by late summer.
