Jags with Plenty of Roster Decisions to Ponder in Offseason
Posted by Matt Loede on January 15th, 2008 filed in NewsWith offseason comes change, and that will be the case in some regard to the Jacksonville Jaguars, who despite a tremendous season that saw them take the Pats to the limit on Saturday night in Foxboro in a playoff game, ended short of their Super Bowl goal. Coach Jack Del Rio said Monday that he was “proud but not satisfied” with the group, and that the team will look to grabbing defensive players in the offseason.
Two players that might be on the market in terms of defense are Jared Allen from the Chiefs and Baltimore’s Terrell Suggs. There is also talk about the team looking at dealing for a wide out, like possibly Chad Johnson of the Bengals or Larry Fitzgerald of the Cards. Both those players may be on the trading block before the draft in April. The team is in good shape as far as the cap goes, as they will have more than $35 million to spend on players that will hit the market on March 1st as well as the 2008 draft class.
The Jags have 7 unrestricted free agents that could hit the market - QB Quinn Gray, RB LaBrandon Toefield, TE Jermaine Wiggins, OT Mike D. Williams, DL Paul Spicer, LB Chris Claiborne, and SS Sammy Knight. They have two restricted free agents - LB Kenneth Pettway and FS Gerald Sensabaugh.
