The Associated Press is reporting that Jacksonville Jaguars safety Reggie Nelson and three University of Florida football players have been questioned about a shooting that took place outside a Gainesville, FL nightclub following Florida’s loss to Auburn, according to police on Monday.
Nelson’s agent, Hadley Engelhard, stated that Nelson had been to the club in question, The Venue, on Saturday night but had left the club 3 hours before the shooting took place, adding, “He wasn’t even there. “He knows nothing. He’s not a witness. He wasn’t involved in any altercation. It’s much ado about nothing.” Gainesville Police spokesman Sgt. Keith Kameg told AP that Nelson wasn’t considered a suspect.
Nelson, who was an All-American at Florida and was a first-round pick by the Jaguars in April, agreed to meet with police on Sunday morning. According to police, 2 individuals, Corey Smith, 28, and Justin Glass, 19, were driving in traffic around 2:30 AM when a man walked up and started shooting. Meanwhile, Nelson spoke with the Jaguars about the incident on Monday in hopes of setting the record straight.
