Veteran K Carney signed by Jaguars

John CarneyIn an expected move, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed veteran placekicker John Carney to a one-year contract; terms are for the veteran minimum ($820,000).  The signing is in response to Jaguars K Josh Scobee being injured; Scobee has a strained right quadriceps muscle which occurred last Sunday during warmups just before the Tennessee-Jacksonville game.

Carney is an 18-year veteran, having played for Tampa Bay, San Diego and New Orleans.  Ironically, Jacksonville was the location when he kicked for New Orleans on December 21, 2003.  The Saints had just scored on several laterals on a kickoff when Carney missed the extra point, thus eliminating  the Saints from the playoffs.  To make room for Carney, the Jaguars waived guard Tutan Reyes.
