Team Should Sit and Wait About the QB Spot

The Jaguars appear to be settled in to their “wait and see” mode when it comes to theLeftwich quarterback spot, and more importantly, the status of both Daunte Culpepper, and current starter, Bryon Leftwich. When it comes to Culpepper, the team is going to simply sit back and wait until the now July 18th hearing to see if he will be free to sign a free agent deal, or if they are going to have to try and work out some sort of crazy deal to get him in the fold.

When it comes to Leftwich, 2007 is the last season that the back and forth quarterback is under contract. Don’t look for the team to jump through any hoops to try and put together a deal before the season is under way, or over for that matter. Leftwich is going to be signable if they want him as the season goes or after the year, so why would the team overpay for him now?

Leftwich says that he is ready to have a big 2007, but we’ve heard that in the past, and just like in the past, you really never know what you are going to get with Bryon. He has never completed a 16-game season, never reached 3,000 passing yards, and his career high in touchdown passes is 15. Last year he was injured once again, throwing for just 1159 yards, 7 TD’s and 5 picks.

The Jags should be wise, wait for what happens with Daunte, and simply sit back and wait on a possible new deal, or not, for Leftwich.
